Competitor specs and prices are taken from each maker's website on November 3, 2026 and may have changed. Check their sites for current figures.
Features included lists what each maker says comes standard at the listed price, plus the add-on prices it lists for doors and windows. Every price is the maker's regular listed price at that size, before shipping, with no sale or promotional pricing. Every price is for a fire-treated tent: where a maker charges extra for fire treatment, the table uses its fire-treated version and shows the upcharge in the Fire treatment column. Both price columns compare the same setup across every maker: the tent with no frame, and the tent with a frame. Where a maker sells the frame as a separate item, the with-frame price adds its listed tent price and its listed frame price.
How to read this table
- Canvas weight. The number is the fabric's weight in ounces, as each maker states it. A higher number means a heavier cloth. Compare like with like: Elk Mountain Tents' 11 oz figure is for a polyester fabric, and the other tents here use cotton duck.
- Fire treatment. Fire treatment slows the spread of flame on the fabric. It matters most in a tent with a wood stove. Davis Tent states that it cannot ship tents to California, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, or Canada without its fire treatment. Colorado Tent Company and Montana Canvas include it as standard. The other makers here charge from $199 to $350 more for it at these sizes.
- Wall height. Wall height is the side wall, from the ground to the eave. Every tent here lists 5 ft walls. Davis Tent states its figure as a cut size. Colorado Tent Company's walls are 5 ft (60 in), and the 14x17 ridge is about 9 ft 2 in.
- Tent only and with a frame. Tent only is the canvas tent with no frame. Colorado Tent Company calls this Fabric Only. Tent with a frame is the same tent plus a complete frame. When a maker sells its frame as a separate item, the table adds the two listed prices. The Frame column says which frame each price includes, so the frames can be compared too. Colorado Tent Company also sells two options in between: External Pole Kit ($2,099 for The 1890, $3,199 for the Colorado Tent) and Angles Only ($2,399 and $3,399).
- Stove jack size. The jack sets which stove pipe fits through the roof, and makers size jacks differently. Davis Tent says its 5.5-inch jack works with 5-inch nesting pipe, and Montana Canvas says its 5-inch oval takes a 5-inch round pipe. Check your stove's pipe diameter against the jack before you buy.
